Since 1941, the Iroquois Steeplechase has taken over Music City as a cornerstone of the local social event calendar and as “Nashville’s Rite of Spring.” This year, the annual tradition returns on Saturday, May 10, with a riveting lineup of races, tempting food vendors and spirited contests for guests of all ages. Here is the ultimate guide to making the most of the 84th annual Iroquois Steeplechase.

The Essentials

The Iroquois Steeplechase grounds are located in Percy Warner Park on the southwest side of Nashville. Directions to the event vary based on guests’ parking location and gate assignment, both of which are listed on each parking pass or ticket. A detailed map and directions are available here.

Gates open at 8 a.m. for tailgating, and party tents become available at 11 a.m. At noon, the opening ceremony begins, kicking off with the National Anthem, performed by country artist Walker Montgomery, who has recently debuted his latest single, “Never Had You Anyway.” A captivating schedule of races follows, with highlights like the Style Contest, the Tailgating Contest, Stick Pony Races for kids and the Parade of Hounds.

The event concludes with the closing of hospitality tents roughly 15 minutes after the final race at around 5:30 p.m.

The historic event draws over 25,000 annual spectators and has raised over $11 million for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

What To Wear

Style and sophistication reign supreme at the Iroquois Steeplechase, so be sure to step out in style.

For The Ladies:

Ladies are encouraged to embrace lightweight fabrics in vibrant hues—think breezy linen or cotton dresses—that offer both comfort and flair in Nashville’s warm May weather. Statement headwear, such as fascinators or wide-brimmed hats, remains a timeless (though optional) tradition at the Iroquois Steeplechase. These elegant accessories not only elevate any ensemble but also provide welcome shade from the midday sun. For footwear, opt for comfortable yet chic choices like low-to-medium block heels or wedges that combine style with ease. Should the weather turn unpredictable, polished rain boots can be a practical and fashionable addition to your outfit.

For The Gentlemen:

Opt for timeless, smart casual attire—pair a tailored sport coat with a fresh button-down and relaxed-fit trousers. Complete the ensemble with quality loafers and classic sunglasses for a race-day look that speaks of understated elegance.

The Experiences

This year’s event is accompanied by a range of all-day experiences, from VIP trackside viewing to indulgent cuisine. Attendees can pay a visit to the all-inclusive Hunt Club, which boasts a patio area and several TVs to catch all of the action. Or, explore the Iroquois Society, Turf Club and Paddock Club lunch options for premium seating and hospitality upgrades. The Paddock Club includes all-day hospitality, a full-service bar and a chef-crafted buffet-style summer menu, with a prime location at the highest point of the venue for scenic views of the grounds. This is where the Modern Luxury Nashville team will be spending the day, so come visit and get a copy of the latest issue.

For exclusive trackside viewing, Royal 615, sponsored by Conrad Nashville, features DJ entertainment, VIP lounge seating, cash bar access and food truck vendors. Tickets to the experience include an invite to pre-parties and the official Royal 615 afterparty from 4 to 7 p.m. on race day. Tickets are required and can be purchased here.

Tailgating experiences, including Centerfield and Topside spots, include a space for one car and a pop-up tent. Elevate the festivities even further by opting for the Tent Package option for added ease.

Additionally, the grounds will host an array of vendor shops and food trucks, including an expanded third vendor area between the Topside and Midfield and additional vendors at the Steeplechase Central and Hillside Shoppes.
