Introducing Our New Bourbon Library

Immerse yourself in The Hermitage Hotel's rich history with our new Bourbon Library & History Corner! In 1912, sheriff’s deputies raided the hotel’s restaurant and discovered liquor being secretly served in teapots to guests. Tennessee was dry long before national prohibition, but that didn’t stop the festivities. In the summer of 1920, in a suite on the hotel’s eighth floor—now known as the Jack Daniel’s Suite—state legislators indulged in whiskey, bourbon, and moonshine. This event, dubbed the "War of the Roses," took place during the debate over the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. The amendment passed by just one vote!
