Food & Drink, Guide,

Nothing hits the spot like a good slice of pizza. As luck would have it, Nashville is experiencing a pie renaissance, which means you can find spectacular slices all around the city. From traditional crispy crusts loaded with gooey cheese to sfincione-style squares with elevated toppings, it’s a great time to be a pizza connoisseur in Music City.

The Pizzeria at Frankies

This New York transplant in East Nashville is a casual affair with serious pizza cred. Shakers filled with chili flakes and Parmesan cheese are stacked on tables, and slices are eaten on paper plates. Grab a beer from the cooler and pair it up with an 18-inch Frankies Hot topped with house-made hot sausage, mozzarella, and pecorino Romano. 925 Cherokee Ave., frankiesnashville.com

Folk

Philip Krajeck of the award-winning Rolf and Daughters opened up this pizza-focused spot back in 2018, which quickly gained notoriety for its clam pie — a perfectly crispy pizza laden with littleneck clams, agretti, bonito, and lemon. You’ll also find a variety of Italian-inspired snacks and plates to go with the thoughtful cocktail list and sherry on tap. 823 Meridian St., goodasfolk.com

City House

Situated in Germantown, this longtime Nashville staple, indeed, looks like a warm, cozy house on the outside. Inside: an expansive space where you’ll find James Beard Award-winning chef Tandy Wilson’s takes on Italian-style dishes. But it’s the belly ham pizza that’s gained notoriety. Order it with a fried egg on top and a side of frico, City House’s popular app featuring Montasio cheese and potatoes cooked in a skillet. 1222 4th Ave. N, cityhousenashville.com

St. Vito Focacceria

This Gulch dining destination, helmed by Michael Hanna, takes a different approach to the pizza game, serving up Nashville with its first and only thick slices of sfincione, a Sicilian pan pizza reminiscent of focaccia. The space is dark, sexy, and intimate — the perfect spot for sipping glasses of red wine while lustily sampling thick, fluffy tufts of dough loaded with decadent toppings like potato cream and burrata. 605 Mansion St., stvitonashville.com

Smith & Lentz

Yes, it’s a brewery, but the pizza at this East Nashville hang is almost just as good — if not better — than the brew. The sunny patio space is the perfect spot to enjoy its sourdough-fermented pies with toppings ranging from soppressata and bacon to henosis mushrooms and olives. Pair it all with the Pizza Palace Pilsner or the Turn On the Lights, a dark Czech lager with notes of toffee and dark fruits. 903 Main St., smithandlentz.com

Slim & Husky

The flatbread-style pies and addictively delicious cinnamon rolls have skyrocketed Slim & Husky from a single location in North Nashville to 10 outposts scattered across Nashville and Georgia. Come for the artisan pies made from five housemade pizza sauces, seven finishing drizzles, and a cadre of tempting toppings, but stay for the lively atmosphere fueled by hip-hop beats and beer on tap. Dicey’s Tavern

Over in Wedgewood Houston, Dicey’s is churning out Chicago-style tavern pizza with thin, crispy crusts and square slices. Opt for a classic pie topped with pepperoni and sausage, or try one of its more inventive concoctions like a pie dotted with hot pickles, bacon, and cheddar or the cacio e pepe fresh mozzarella, parmesan cream, pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The outdoor patio is a local favorite for sipping vodka-filled lemon freezes on warm days. 425 Chestnut St., diceystavern.com
