With awards season around the corner, the best films of the year hit the big screen this month. Aside prestige productions, there are also plenty of binge-worthy watches, comfort-favorite shows and holiday specials on the way. Below, see what titles you don’t want to miss in December.
Nosferatu
Robert Egger’s Nosferatu brings a slice of horror to the big screen on Christmas Day. Starring Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin and Lily-Rose Depp, this remake of the 1922 vampire classic film unfurls in 19th-century Germany, following an ancient Transylvanian vampire stalking a young woman.

Mufasa: The Lion King
Disney corrals a star-studded group to look back on the rise of orphaned cub Mufasa into royalty. Directed by Barry Jenkins, Aaron Pierre leads in the eponymous role alongside a cast that includes Blue Ivy Carter, Mads Mikkelsen, Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen.

A Complete Unknown
Timothée Chalamet vies for his next Oscar nomination in a biographical drama about a young Bob Dylan. Based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties, the James Mangold film captures Dylan’s stardom ascent and his controversial switch to playing electric instrumentation. It also stars Elle Fanning, Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro.

Y2K
Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney makes his directorial debut with an A24 comedy flick that remembers the humor and anxieties of the last night of 1999. Starring Rachel Zegler, Jaesen Martell and Julian Dennison, Y2K inspired laughs by seeing what happens when two high school juniors go to crash a New Year’s Eve party, but end up fighting for their lives. The cast also includes Fred Durst and Alicia Silverstone.

If you missed Sabrina Carpenter’s Short ‘n Sweet Tour, don’t fret. She’s bringing her onstage sparkle and charm to Netflix with a Christmas special full of her fan-favorite songs, holiday tracks and surprise guests. Tune in to also catch Chappel Roan, Tyla, Shania Twain, Quinta Brunson, Megan Stalter and other stars.

The Last Showgirl
Following an applauded debut at the Toronto Film Festival, Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl hits a limited number of theaters this month. The drama depicts the life of a showgirl—played by Pamela Anderson—whose show abruptly ends after a successful three-decade run. The cast also includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, Billie Lourd and Jason Schwartzman.

The Brutalist
Clocking in at three hours and 35 minutes, Brady Crobet’s historical drama epic tells the fictional tale of a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who emigrates to the U.S. after surviving the Holocaust. In pursuit of (and struggling for) the American Dream, László Tóth’s life changes when his life crosses paths with a wealthy client. The A24 film stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola.

Queer Eye Season 9
Debuting a brand new cast member, Queer Eye’s ninth season takes the Fab Five to Las Vegas to transform the lives of Nevada-based heroes. It will run for 10 episodes.

No Good Deed
From Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman, this Netflix comedy watches what happens when three families go head-to-head to buy the same house. The cast features Ray Romano, Lisa Cudrow, Linda Cardellini, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Denis Leary, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris and O-T Fagbenle.

Squid Game Season 2
Three years after becoming a global phenomenon, season 2 of the South Korean survival thriller returns to close out 2024 with a slate of new episodes that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. Also taking place three years after the events of season one, watch as Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) forgoes traveling to the United States for another try at the eerie life-or-death game.
