Known for its ever-changing art installations, the Bobby Hotel has partnered with Tinney Contemporary, Music City’s leading contemporary art gallery, to unveil a captivating new group exhibition. Inspired by the Taoist symbol representing balance, Yin-Yang is the latest addition to The Collection at Bobby’s rotating series in partnership with Tinney Contemporary.

Curated by Joshua Edward Bennet, the exhibition explores the complexity of the timeless Yin-Yang symbol. Bennet says the nuance of the symbol “is reflected in the varied approaches of the displayed artworks: some are serious, some are humorous, and many capture both qualities simultaneously.”

Running through March 11, 2025, the exhibition features an impressive lineup of renowned artists, including painter John Phillip Abbott, painter and printmaker Anthony Baab, painter Lena Schmid, multimedia artist Amy Pleasant, American postwar contemporary artist Ryan Travis Christan and many more. Their works, rendered in black, white and grayscale hues, explore themes of harmony and interaction between opposing forces.

“We are fascinated by these stripped-down formal parameters—the contrast of back and white as a constraint. Works implementing monochromatic visual components without color to provide content rely on composition, technique and subject to convey their stories. This self-imposed limitation is genuinely intriguing,” Bennet says.

Founded in 2006 by Susan Tinney, the gallery has long remained a pillar in Nashville’s art scene, showcasing national, regional and international artists. The gallery also offers professional art services to its loyal clients, from selection and purchase to framing and installation. All artworks from Bobby Hotel’s latest initiative with Tinney Gallery are available for sale, with 100% of profits benefiting the gallery.

In celebration of the exhibition, Bobby Hotel guests can enjoy a special Nashville Art Week package, which includes complimentary valet parking for one and two tickets to the Frist Art Museum through Dec. 31.

Additionally, the hotel has crafted a curated lineup of themed cocktails, including the Honey & Harmony, which combines lemon juice, simple syrup, Mezcal and cherry juice; the No Context, a coffee and vodka-infused mix of agave, orgeat syrup and cream; and the It’s Complicated, a vivid butterfly pea flower cocktail made with Tanqueray gin, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, lemon juice and tonic water.

“Conceptually, black and white as a dichotomous pair hold age-old meanings—opposing forces, light and dark, good and evil, truth and falsehood, right and wrong," says Bennet. "Yin-Yang complicates this binary opposition by depicting these supposedly contradictory forces as inextricable and interdependent.”
